That was through VicPolice, though it was granted by the Governor-in-Council, and involved a Federal Police Check, with an interview, and a visit to my home too. Customs operate under a slightly different set of rules, being Federal, than the State Police regulations, however, they honour the state findings. I'd check with both your local Police in Brisbane, then with Customs. I just ordered a nice looking hatchet, and am a little concerned customs with detain it on the grounds it resembles a 'throwing axe'. It seems all my favourite things are off limits - trench knives, throwing knives, double bladed knives.
